A membership that is only a discount will be used like a coupon: when it is convenient, and not when the book is empty. Retention memberships work because they create a next visit at the moment this one ends.
If your members still have to remember to book, you built a pricing tier, not a retention system.
Sell a cadence, not a percentage
Toxin every 12 weeks, facial every 6, laser on a protocol — those are products people can belong to. “15% off everything” is a leak. The membership should pre-book the next visit, or at least put it on a hold the client can confirm.
Make the front desk able to explain it in one sentence
If the coordinator needs a binder, the membership will not sell at checkout. One sentence: what they get, when they come back, what it costs, how they cancel. Anything more belongs on a page, not in the goodbye at the desk.
Use it to fill the ugly hours
Members should get first claim on the holes you actually have — late Thursday, early Tuesday — not only Saturday morning. That is how a membership earns its discount. If members only take the times everyone wants, you discounted your best inventory.
Watch the ones who stop using it
A paused or unused membership is a reactivation list with a credit card attached. Do not wait until they cancel. A quiet member at week ten is cheaper to save than a refund email at week fourteen.
SaleSystem keeps memberships on the client, books the next visit as part of checkout, and flags unused plans before they become cancellations.
